The first consideration when configuring scheduling
using Platform Suite for SAS is where to install the software. The
location that you choose affects the availability of scheduling functions
as well as the ability to schedule jobs.
For scheduling on a
single machine, install Platform Suite for SAS on a single machine
in your network.
If you install a Platform
LSF on more than one machine in your network, you must use SAS Grid
Manager to configure the other machines to use for scheduling. Refer
to
Grid Computing in SAS® 9.3 for more information about configuring scheduling in a grid environment.
If you are using a multi-tier
configuration with SAS Data Integration Studio (consisting of a client
tier, a middle tier running a Web application server, and a server
tier) and you want to schedule jobs from SAS Data Integration Studio
as well as reports from SAS Web Report Studio, you must install the
Platform Process Manager server and SAS Business Intelligence Report
Services on the server tier.
If you are scheduling
reports using SAS Web Report Studio, you must install the Platform
Process Manager on the same system as SAS Business Intelligence Report
Services. By default, SAS Business Intelligence Report Services is
installed on the server tier. If you want to install it on a different
machine, you must use a custom installation plan. If you use both
SAS Web Report Studio and SAS Data Integration Studio, Platform Process
Manager and SAS Business Report Services must always be installed
on the SAS Application Server tier, which contains a SAS Workspace
Server and an object spawner.
