SAS has many tuning
options, most of which are left at their default values. When an application
accesses data through a
SAS/SHARE server, sometimes the default values provide adequate performance
and sometimes they do not.
SAS software is delivered
to you properly tuned for a typical application that uses
SAS/SHARE software. SAS makes some assumptions
about the kind of processing that is going to take place in a typical
application. Recognizing that your application might not be typical,
SAS supplies tuning options that you can use to override default behavior.
This paper discusses
programming techniques and option value adjustments that you can use
to improve the performance of your applications that access data through
servers. The information in this paper is the result of tuning several
large applications that are in use at SAS.
